Playing Star Wars: Commander on iOS

OK, so I promised myself I wasn’t going to play any more Star Wars games after a brutal string of disappointments. Seriously, how many times can you mess up this amazing franchise, LucasArts? But there’s a new Star Wars game sitting on top of the App Store charts right now called Star Wars: Commander, and I decided to give it a go.

First thing: this game is a very obvious knock-off of Clash of Clans. It is similar to that game in almost every way, but given how well Clash of Clans has performed for the past two years, you really can’t blame the people at LucasArts and Disney for making a copycat game. The combination of that style of gameplay and the massive universe of Star Wars makes a very compelling game.

Star Wars: Commander is fun. If you’ve already played Clash of Clans, then the learning curve is very small. Even if you haven’t, it’s likely that you’ve played some form of Real-time Strategy game before, and SW: Commander will seem very familiar to you. If you need help, there are lots of Star Wars: Commander cheats and tips sites popping up all over the place.

The biggest question you have to answer right away is whether you will play for the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire. In many ways, this is just a personal preference. Your decision doesn’t really impact the game down the road. But you do need to decide at the beginning, and you cannot switch later, so it’s an important choice to make.

What I really like are the campaigns. The single-player version of the game is much more interesting than Clash of Clans, and that’s mostly due to the rich Star Wars storyline that the game pulls from. For Star Wars nerds, the game takes place in the period of time between Star Wars Episode IV (A New Hope) and Star Wars Episode V (The Empire Strikes Back). For many fans, this is the “glory period” so it was a smart choice to base the game in this time period.

You can play any island adventure whenever you want, but you probably want to get going with one of the easier islands, like Time Tangled to obtain a idea of how to play.

Playing the Game

Your character can be a boy or a girl and you can change the appearance prior to starting the game. You may start with a new player every time or register with the site to save your character as a veteran player.

The game is like a classic side-scroller. You begin each island adventure by arriving and then have to talk to characters that you come across to uncover what must be done. Then you progress along the adventure until you have completed all the tasks you need to do.

Poptropica mashes together logic challenges and adventure with basic arcade skills like running, jumping and playing with objects in the world. A great deal of the game includes jumping around things in the way or climbing up buildings to find secret spots.

Other Players

In certain rooms on all of the Poptropica islands you can play contests against other players. Winning several mini-games improves your battle ranking. You can also chat with other players using built-in questions from a menu.

Angry Birds Epic

Angry Birds Epic - Red

I took a break from my hardcore real-time strategy games to try out Angry Birds Epic from Rovio today. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of the Angry Birds series (some people like to call it a “franchise.”) I played the original Angry Birds like everyone else, but I never got into all the different sequels. But a few friends highly recommended Angry Birds Epic so I thought I’d give it a try.

It turns out that it’s fun! It’s a turn-based battle game in the classic 3 v 3 style. You select your team for each battle from your available birds (there are only 5 total, so choices are relatively easy) and then you battle enemy pigs on a “saga style” progression map. As you move through the map of Piggie Island, the levels get tougher. This is by no means a hard-core strategy game, but it’s a really nice departure from the standard physics-based puzzle style that Angry Birds is known for. I don’t know how long I’ll be playing this game, but so far I’m having fun with it.

Pro tip: Check out Angry Birds Secrets for some nice walkthroughs and guides. I really liked the farming guide, which made it easy to stockpile all the resources I needed to make lots of potions and weapons. Potions seem to be key for surviving the tougher battles, especially the wave battles and the castle battles. I haven’t tackled a dungeon just yet.

Boom Beach Tips and Tricks

My favorite new iPad game as of late is Supercell’s Boom Beach. It’s hella fun.

Here’s an overview of the different Boom Beach troops available in the game. Right now, there are six different units available (less than in Clash of Clans) and each has a basic purpose in the game.

Boom Beach Rifleman

Rifleman

“Rifleman at the ready! Basic infantry units, the Riflemen are able to deal out and withstand moderate damage. In large enough numbers, they are almost unstoppable.”

  • The Rifleman is the first troop unlocked in the game. He’s your go-to guy for many attack situations.
  • Riflemen are good average troops with moderate hit points, damage and attack range.
  • They have the lowest troop housing space and landing craft can be loaded up with them.

Heavy

“The Heavy can absorb a lot of damage and still keep on moving forward. He’s happy to draw all the attention, and will take a punch to give a punch!”

  • The Heavy is the second troop unlocked in the game.
  • The Heavy can be used as a meat shield as he has the second highest health in the game.

Warrior

“The Tribal Warrior is an awesome sight in battle. He charges fearlessly, knowing that his Crystal Hammer will heal him with every blow.”

  • The Warrior is the fourth troop unlocked in the game.
  • Warriors use melee attacks rather than guns, and have relatively high damage.
  • Warriors have the fastest speed out of all troops.
  • The Warrior’s health is higher than a Rifleman’s and can also heal himself through attacking.

Boom Beach TankTank

“With its powerful gun and thick armor, the Tank is a real war machine! Due to its weight, each Tank needs extra Energy to land ashore. Cannons, Boom Cannons and Boom Mines deal double damage to Tanks.”

  • The Tank is the fifth troop to unlock in the game.
  • The Tank is weak against Cannons, Boom Cannons and Boom Mines.
  • The Tank has slow movement speed, but high health, DPS and long range.
  • Each Tank costs two Gunboat Energy to deploy.

Medic

“Make love, not war! The Medic is opposed to all kinds of violence. Instead of grabbing a rifle, he heals other troops to help our cause.”

  • ​The Medic requires Level 15 Headquarters, making it the last troop to unlock.
  • The Medic heals other troops, increasing their survivability.

Zooka

“For long-range attacks, call in the Zooka. A few Zookas can completely devastate a whole enemy base, but don’t let them come under fire from enemy turrets!”

  • Zookas are the third troop to unlock, unlocked at Headquarters Level 5.
  • Zookas have very high DPS, but their health is very low.
  • Zookas carry Bazookas on their shoulders.

Here’s a video from Teach Boom Beach that shows off a new attack strategy involving using Riflemen, Zookas and Medics. You have to obviously be a high enough level to train Medics to use this strategy, but it’s a nice alternative to the usual approach of using just Heavies and Zookas. This attack formation is one of several great Boom Beach secrets out there.

Funny Story Behind Flappy Bird and Mario Brothers

And so after Mario saved the princess she invited her to watch Birdwatching and Flappy Bird came.

And so the pricess wasn’t happy and took down the game. lol

I don’t really know what’s behind the story of Flappy Bird, what I heard is that the creator of this massively viral and addictive casual game was wanting to develop a game that would be enjoyable for minutes.

Hmmm that didn’t sound like it was really what it was!

It was extremely difficult and got really mad with this flappy bird.

They are posting their best scores is 3.

Well, the developer’s best score was 150.

I’ve tried it and at the first jump of the bird I knew that it wasn’t a bird!!! It’s a stone with a big mouth.

But for a minute it was nice to see how this games could move people.

The thing about the game is that it looks very simple, you just need to guide a small bird while flapping its small wings through each pipe by clicking your mouse of tapping your smart phone. That doesn’t sound so hard… Even the graphics are not really complicated, no other stuff in the are, the pipes are green, the bird is flying… So simple!

But it’s hard!!!! And lot of people are getting really mad about it and I just don’t know why they continuesly playing it. I tried it for about 10 minutes and got really irritated so I just went to my candy crash game and played. Yeah, I’m still visiting candy crash.

And because of that, he took out the game on the apps store on android and apple!

But because many people already downloaded it, they are still playing the game even if it’s giving them stress and they are cursing their smartphones and the bird.. Poor bird.
